INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY 2023

To celebrate this years International Women’s Day theme to #EmbraceEquity, we invited our South Australia Customer Service Representative, Tegan Gillies to share her personal experience on the challenges and opportunities that arise in embracing equity.

“What attracted me to apply for the role at 1300TempFence was the reputable company it is, while maintaining that family feel and core values especially team work. Looking back, when I first applied into the hire industry I didn’t realise how male dominated it was but what I love about it is that I am able to build relationships and there is so much diversity that comes with that. I feel like I can really leverage off my customer service skills while getting out of my comfort zone and learning new skills along the way.

I’ve worked since I was 14, starting at KFC and working up the hierarchy until eventually I was an accredited trainer, travelling across South Australia, training up and coming shift supervisors and onboarding new team members. From there I worked at Terry White Chemist as a Dispense Technician. Customer service and building relationships has always been at the core of what I do and from there I moved into the Hire industry as it really is the core of the industry.

I think I have been successful so far because I apply the words of wisdom and encouragement I get from those around me. I look at each day as an opportunity to develop my skills as well as share my knowledge I have with others, having confidence and being comfortable with success. That is my advice to other women in this industry or who want to get into this industry, be confident in and comfortable in having success, there is no reason why you shouldn’t – allow yourself to be more, don’t limit yourself and own your development.”
